Last Minute Halloween Fancy Dress Essentials

It’s the night of Friday the 30th October and you’re freaking out as you’ve got a Halloween party to attend tomorrow night and you have nothing to wear? Well don’t worry girls I’ve got you covered by this super simple yet Halloween appropriate doll costume idea, plus some makeup tips to have you spookily transformed in hardly no time at all.

Main outfit essentials: Grab that little black dress that’s hanging in your wardrobe and pair it with whatever coloured tights you wish.

Top Tip: If you want to look extra doll-like grab a pair of nude/sheer tights and with a black sharpie or any black marker draw one closed curve bracket line above your knee onto the tights and one closed curve bracket line below your knee onto the tights to make your knees look like their on hinges, repeat this on both parts of your tights…Like so in the picture below↓

Essential Number 2: Pair this with any dark coloured cardigan you have. (Even if you’re going to a house party and you’ll be inside in the warm its always nice just to throw something over your shoulders just incase you happen to go outside or if you’re wearing a strapless dress like myself.)

Essential Number 3: Pair this outfit with any pumps/ flat shoes and would you believe it your outfit is sorted! Easy right?

Now for the best bit…

Makeup essentials: In my opinion, the best bit about fancy dress on Halloween is the makeup because you can do whatever you want and no one will care what you look like, the messier the better! These are my Halloween makeup essentials…

Makeup Essential Number 1: For this specific look you can stick with your usual foundation routine or like I will be doing is using a mattifying foundation with high coverage to recreate a matte, clear complexion like a doll by using L’Oreal’s Infallible 24H-MATTE foundation.

Makeup Essential Number 2: Any dark eye shadow palette/ singular dark eye shadows you have will work a dream! Opt for a dark smoky eye by covering your lid with a medium brown colour and blend a dark brown/ black shadow into your crease. Done.(The Nudes palette by Maybelline is perfect for this!)

Top Tip: For an extra dimension to your eye add a dramatic winged liner and don’t forget to give your lashes an extra coating of mascara You can even add a pair of exaggerate fake lashes to really enhance and lengthen your lashes to appear more doll-like!

Makeup Essential Number 3: If you want to give the impression that you’re a living doll, add lots of blush to the apples of your cheeks or if you want to opt for a dead doll, skip this step.

Top Tip: Depending on the ‘dolls state’ that you want to go for (dead or alive) you can either choose to matte out your lips with foundation or add a brightly coloured lipstick, your choice.

Finally, seeing as it’s Halloween no fancy dress look is complete without some fake blood. Luckily this is really cheap and can be found in many shops (Superdrug, 99p stores, etc..) for a very cheap price. Dab or drip this onto your face or body and you’ll be good to go 🙂

So there it is a super quick, easy yet effective doll inspired fancy dress idea! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post and found it some what helpful. I’d love to know what you’re going as for Halloween so make sure to tweet me @brown_eyed_teen

Have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN and make sure you have lots of fun but most importantly stay safe, I heard Dracula’s thirsty.

MWHAHAHAHAHAHA, sorry had to be done.

Juggling Life

First of all I would like to apologise for not posting in a while. To be perfectly honest I feel like I’ve been on a roller coaster ride for two weeks, and I’ve just about recovered from all the loop-the-loops.

Most of you will be unaware that a couple of weeks ago I went for a job interview and actually got the job and have been working ever since, which has sadly taken over majority of my time. I have also had to be preparing for sixth form and completing induction tasks for my chosen A- levels, whilst trying to have some what of a social life and failing to keep up with my blog, which I’m very sorry about. But I can tell you now…a new month brings new organisation, fingers crossed…which I’m sure will mean scheduled blog posts, just once I’ve settled in and my rollercoaster has come to an end and I can release my seat belt, which I promise won’t be much longer.

I just thought I’d update my blog with a quick notice that I certainly haven’t forgotten about you guys but have actually been planning some really exciting, future blog posts which hopefully you will love just as much as I do! Not forgetting to mention they will be featuring some special guests and some amazing prizes up for grabs, which you won’t want to miss!

That’s all from me for now, speak to you soon.

Love Lucy

What’s in my makeup bag?

What's in my makeup bag?I have yet to upload a beauty post, so I thought what better blog post to do then a ‘What’s in my makeup bag?’ So, if you’re a bit nosey like myself and love these type of posts, then just carry on reading..↓..

Depending on what skin day I’m having, whether it is a gross-looking skin day or the sort of day where I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup, but I still want a bit of coverage, determines what face product I reach for, so here’s my most frequently used foundations:

My skin type is oily/combination.

I also really love using Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in the colour ivory beige! However it gives quite a full coverage so I only tend to wear it for special occasions (this was my chosen prom day foundation.)

I tend to find liquid concealers leave quite a weird, thick finish to my under eyes, so recently I have been completely loving my bareMinerals Multi-Tasking SPF 20 concealer in the colour bisque 1B, which I find works incredibly well and banishes any darkness under my eyes really well.

I have re- purchased this product 3 times!

Blusher, Bronzer and Highlight:

An absolute staple item in my makeup bag has to be the Sleek contouring and blush palette in light 373! This is my holy grail product by far as I use it every day! Also, it is perfect for travelling or chucking in your handbag as it has a bronzer, blush and highlight all in one, which are all so beautiful and pigmented.

Did you know…This bronzer can also be used as a transition eye shadow colour? I often use this bronzer in quite a lot of my smoky eye looks!

By far my favourite beauty product of all is the Benefit Roller Lash which is the best mascara I have ever used, I also much prefer it to Benefit ‘They’re Real’ as I found that particular mascara dried very quickly and didn’t give my lashes as much volume and length as Roller Lash does.

Benefit Roller Lash is my favourite product in my makeup bag!

As for eyeliner my absolute go-to liner is Rimmel’s Scandal Eyes precision micro eyeliner in 001 Black/Noir. Although I equally ♥LOVE♥ Rimmel’s Scandal Eyes Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in 002 Brown/Brun, which is ridiculously easy to apply and has amazing lasting power.

To be perfectly honest I’m not a massive lipstick fan, although you can’t beat the Rimmel Kate Moss collection as personally I think a classy red lip is essential in any makeup bag! But Nivea balms and chap sticks are also essential, that’s why I use:

  • Nivea Fruity Shine in Watermelon
  • Nivea Hydro Care (SPF 15)

However before I apply any lip product I use my Lush Cosmetics Bubblegum flavour sugar lip scrub which smells and tastes incredible! Definitely try this out if you haven’t already, you definitely will not regret the purchase.

Especially in colder months I find my lips can get chapped very easily and the only product which relieves this is the:

Paw Paw Papaya Moisturising Balm

Brushes/ Sponges:

Since Zoella started making videos I have been addicted to Youtube! And that’s when I first found out about realTechniques brushes as they featured in one of her hauls. In my collection I have:

  • realTechniques expert face brushIMG_0855
  • realTechniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
  • realTechniques shading brush
  • “mister mascara” mineral powder brush
  • Bare Escentuals full flawless face brush
  • A No7 brush (from a Christmas gift set from Boots)
  • realTechniques retractable kabuki brush

Hope you’ve enjoyed finding out what’s in my makeup bag, and I’ll talk to you lovely people very soon. Love Lucy XO

The Self Love Challenge 13

The Self Love Challenge 13Whilst on twitter, I came across a notification that I had been nominated by Francesca Rose from to do ‘The Self Love Challenge 13’,which was originally started by Alexandra from (Make sure to go check these girls blogs out!)

I found the whole concept of this tag rather pleasing, as the encouraging message to love yourself for who you are, is something that doesn’t get enough attention and is easily covered by the ” I hate this” and “I hate that”s. The media has brainwashed many people into believing that you should look, act and dress a specific way, which of course hasn’t given people the best of confidence. So instead of the media being flooded with negative influences, lets spread a bit of positivity and join me in writing down 13 things you love about yourself! If I can do it I’m certain you can too!

(Oh.. and remember there really are no excuses…you don’t need a blog post to do this! Grab a pen and paper and you’re good to go!) Remember this isn’t the easiest of things for people to write so just take that into consideration before anyone gets the wrong idea about this tag and accuses anyone of being stuck up and vain because that is totally the wrong idea.

The Rules:

1. Write 13 things you love about yourself

2.Nominate 13 more bloggers or vloggers

3. Share on social media with the hashtag #TheSelfLoveChallenge13

So here are my 13 things I love about myself:
1. I love my determination to succeed in life and my desire to become fluent in Spanish.
2. I love my brows because they’re thick, arched and o’natural.
3. I love my kind nature, I have great pride and happiness from helping and being nice to others.
4. I love how I grow so attached to new books that I read.
5. I love how I have the most amazing friends and such a supporting family, that I couldn’t be more thankful for.
6. Although naturally I’m quite a shy-quiet person around people I don’t know, I love the fact that I’m in my comfort zone performing and even found myself winning an end of year 11, year group drama award, which people would never presume unless they knew me personally.
7. I love my sensitivity and to those I care about I would, without any hesitation, go the extra mile whatever the case to make them happy.
8. Becoming a much stronger person after experiencing a really rough time in my life from utter bitchiness and purely spiteful personalities.
9. I love how I treasure memories by keeping souvenirs to keep the memory alive for as long as possible.
10. I love how committed I am to my journal… I know it sounds stupid, but I love having a place to write down all my memories and rollercoaster of teenage emotions.
11. I love how I made ‘thatbrowneyedteen’ by myself and achieved something I’ve been wanting to do for a while. *CELEBRATORY DANCE*
12. I love how the little gestures mean the most to me.
13. I love how I can make other people laugh and am not afraid to make a fool of myself, which if you unaware happens to me on a regular basis.
I hope you found this interesting to read and hopefully inspired YOU to complete #TheSelfLoveChallenge13 yourself,
                                                                               Love Lucy
Head over to my twitter @brown_eyed_teen and come say hello, would love to speak to you guys! 😀 X

The McBusted Tag
1.When did you find out about McBusted?

To be perfectly honest I’m not quite sure when I found out about McBusted…it was either when my parents noticed their tour dates were first released in their newspaper or when I watched their press conference that made them official, one of those two.Yet one thing I do remember was when I first saw Busted live at Powderham Castle and McFly supported them. I obviously had to leave with a diamante cowgirl hat, that they were selling on stands, as I thought I was the bee’s knees – Clearly not. Although, I must admit we did end up eating KFC right at the back of the swarm of people – as little me would never of been able to see anyway! Surely they must of been queuing since 3am – see what I did there 😉

2.First song you heard?

Of course the first song I heard was Air Guitar, which I absolutely loved! As soon as I saw the music video and started to sing my heart out to the catchy lyrics, they soon became my favourite band! Their music video reminded me of playing Guitar Hero when I was little with my older brother, who was always the Judd of the family, drumming away on any surface insight.

3.Have you ever seen them live?

Fortunately I have seen them live twice. Firstly at Bournemouth (BIC Windsor Hall) on the 21/04/14 at the OMFG Tour and the second time was the following year – the day of my 16th birthday at The Most Excellent Adventure Tour (MEAT),where myself and my two friends were lucky enough to see them play at the O2 Arena in London – the date they just so happened to be filming for their DVD. Their concerts are by far the best and I cant wait to see how they top their 2016 tour! I’m excited already!

4.Have you ever met them?

Sadly, I have never met them…Yet my dad has met Danny, which is so unfair! He most kindly sent me a picture of them both – arms draped round each others shoulders, sporting the most cheesiest of grins. But receiving this in the post settles for the next best thing, don’t you think?

5.Are you followed by them on twitter?

My personal twitter account is followed my James, which practically made my year! I was left cartwheeling up and down my landing, screaming from the top of my yeah I think I handled it in a pretty calm manner :/

6.Favourite song?

I don’t think I could possibly choose just 1 song…However I must say I always find myself flicking through my playlists and listening to Sensitive Guy quite a lot! My favourite lyric being “I’m on a diet but I’m not getting thinner”. Not forgetting the mention of Tom’s sister – Carrie, in the song, who I absolutely adore! Not only is she such a talented author but herself along with Tom and Gi (Tom’s wife – who is also an excellent author) make amazing YouTube videos…Definitely check them out if you haven’t already! (Their links will be at the end of this tag.)

7.Do you have any merch/posters?

Woops…My purse is still recovering. My personal favourites I bought were the hoodie and T-shirt with the band as cartoon characters on but no I don’t have any posters…yet.

8.Who is your favourite member?

I love every single member, they’re all just sooo incredibly talented! But if I had to choose I would have to say either Tom or James are my favourites. I say favourites because there’s no chance I would be able to choose just one. Sorry.

9.Were you already a McFly/Busted fan and when from?

Since as long as I can remember I’ve been a massive McFly fan. My brother would fetch his acoustic guitar from the back of his wardrobe and would strum (out of tune, might I add) to the their song Obviously, while I would be singing along in my Barbie pyjamas, performing to our mum and dad. Also both myself and my sibling were huge Busted fans and practically had every song memorised, including Thunderbirds which of course was one of our favourite films to watch together.

10.What’s your favourite McFly/Busted song?

Although my favourite McFly song has always been Obviously, I don’t think you can beat Star Girl or Five Colours In Her Hair, which are both my favourite songs to see live! Whereas my favourite Busted song would either be the classic Air Hostess or Meet You There 🙂

Speaking of meeting you there, why not head over to my twitter: @brown_eyed_teen

Come say hello and lets talk all things McBusted!

Book Review: Remix by Non Pratt

From the author of ‘Trouble’ comes a novel of boys, bands and best mates.

Do you know the feeling when you fall completely in love…with a book? If your answer to this question is YES, you should of experienced a certain love for specific characters, been intrigued by descriptive words neatly covering each page of a book and of course been swept away by the story line behind it all. This is what I experienced whilst reading REMIX by Non Pratt! However if your answer to this question is NO, I don’t frankly have the words to describe just what you’re missing out on.

It all begins after their GSCE whirlwind, both 16-year-old Kaz and Ruby are eager to let their locks down and what better place to do that, than at Remix festival.

3 days, 2 best mates, 1 music festival yet zero chance of everything working out.

So by first introduction to the best friends, I was instantly attached to their vivid characters due to their real, risible and relatable personalities- it brought me back to June this year with my best friends, dancing around in wellies with no care in the world, neon face paint, cat eye flicks and a f*** tonne of Mountain Dew- a bottle in one hand and a mountainous stash back in our tent. But to be perfectly honest, Ruby seems much more confident in her approach to love as I ever have been before, although, as the pages were turned- the important development of their friendship was at the core of the book, which made me fall in love with Non’s writing, more than I ever thought was imaginable.

Kaz’s apprehensive mother provides her virgin daughter with a wad of twenty-four condoms, just to make sure her little “chicken” is safe, though Kaz only has eyes for one guy- her ex, Tom. Meanwhile, Ruby’s parents are ashamed of her poor exam results, whilst Ruby’s furious at her cheating Ex boyfriend- Stu.

Before the tent pegs are even hammered into the ground familiar faces start to appear and issues start to unfold. Be ready for three days of snogs, sex, sick, drinks, tears and a heck load of drama! Pratt captures real teenage experiences through the use of hectic alternating passages from each girls perspective. A well-written, quick read which will leave you searching for your Ray Ban Clubmasters and pining to buy festival tickets in a matter of minutes.

Not forgetting to mention I read this book in under a day, which might I add never happens! I’m usually too absorbed into my phone watching Zoe and Alfie’s videos till early hours of the morning.

Us girls know what it’s like to be completely head over converse for a certain band or band member and plastering every inch of our walls with topless posters of them, posed like their advertising for Abercrombie and Fitch and secretly smooching them whilst parents aren’t on patrol.. if this sounds like you and I know it does! Then Remix is the book for you…A read not regretted, I promise.

Where to buy Remix by Non Pratt:

Upcoming book reviews include:

  • Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
  • We Were Liars by E.lockhart
  • how to be bad by E.lockhart, Lauren Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski
